EMOTION MASK : BABY
I got really use to doing faces after my AP art concentration of sleeping faces, and the depth and shadows came very naturally to me ( I think I explained this in my blog). The fact that it did though was quite a surprise, because just a couple months ago were we to do this project, I probably wouldn't have been able to do it so easily.. ( without worrying that I might be wrong or that Its not perfect.
The face is that of a baby, and it supposed to be a baby crying. The song its based on is Kim by Eminem, and its quite a disturbing song so I recommend it if you are in on that kinda stuff.
Something that I am really glad it worked out is the tears and the shiny mouth. Its something that I experimented with, and thankfully it worked.. well. I kind of wished it had been a clay piece as it would have been better to keep ( being a little heavier).
One of the biggest things I learned from this is painting shadows. I noticed that for this project, you had to go extreme with the shadows ( well, more than you think is actually needed) for the face to "make sense" too little makes the face look dull and too much.. well it looks like a clown. I started out going really subtle and went full out by the end. I tried. ( It was also really hard because the paint kept chipping off of the plaster paper towel mixture) I think I kept the balance /skin tone okay in general… right? ( At this point, I really can't tell. )
