This week, I had to make another clay head because the one that I was working on last week became a little dry & stiff and looked like a potato. It wasn't fixable and the head was a little big anyway, so I decided to start over while I still had a chance. I am almost done covering and smoothening out my head, so hopefully I am not too far behind.
I actually think that it was nice that I got to make the newspaper head again. I definitely got better since the first time I made it, and I made sure to put a lot of flesh on top so I don't make my figure a cone-head. I also noticed that packing my newspaper semi-loosely was not a good idea as newspaper got soggy when wet, and it was really hard to work with once the clay was on. ( My fingers would push in to the clay, and I felt like I didn't have a armature to work with) This time, I made sure to pack my newspaper tightly enough so that I still could work with it even when it did become soggy.
