I added back fat to make my back less "tumor-y" And made her belly button more natural ( by digging my finger all around it) I also drilled a hole on my very unnatural looking side fat to keep my pot from exploding. ( because that would not only destroy my pot, but probably destroy the kiln.

Wow I cannot tell you how hard making a torso is… considering I have to make the entire thing in about 4 class periods. I originally decided to build the base in one class period and add fat for the other 3 classes, but the building ended up taking 3 classes ( and I'm not done)
The torso also started to squish vertically down a bit because I didn't have the time to wait for my clay to become leather hard before I built even more on, and my venus became even fatter, and shorter. Ms. Lopez says it's fine, and I think the front is fine, but the back of my venus looks absolutely horrendous. It looks like she has 3 tumors growing out of the side and the middle of her back, and I'm not sure what to do about it anymore. Venus also started cracking everywhere because it couldn't hold it's weight, and Ms. Lopez and I had to spend the last 15 minutes of class just blowdrying my pot so it wouldn't completely fall apart ( which it didn't. Whew) In terms of progress, I'm not sure yet. I had a picture but then I lost it, so I'll try to add one in the future, or include it in my next blog post. It's a fat venus with cracks and tumors everywhere. It's pretty self explanatory. This week was a Awesome week. First of all, It was my birthday, and I got so many peperos ( With Jiwon giving me a Giganormous Pepero box) :))) YAY!! Prim and Cookie gave me big kisses <3, my mom got me these books that I really wanted, and my dad gave me a bunny doll ( This may sound a bit weird if you don't know me, but I love cuddly dolls. I still haven't quite grown out of it. This is worse because this was my 18th birthday, which means I'm technically legally an adult now.. I don't really like being an adult.) Secondly, I got the Coach's Choice award for XC, which was a nice birthday present. ( and I didn't fail my stat test that day) And AlSO... I got to try FALAFEL!!!!! YAY!!! ( Birthday present from Mr. Lopez! ) It was SO good. The smell was amazing too because it had Jiwon screaming "OMG THAT SMELLS SOOO GOOD" After my wonderful experience, I did some research and figured out it was made out of beans, which was cool because I normally am not a huge fan of beans ( and some beans, like lima beans, just suck) but it was so good. Maybe I should just fake my birthday once in a while. (Ms Lopez, can you pretty please cook for us one day?) Okay, now going back to my pot... I decided that the best way to make this fat venus was to make the base with a coil pot, then Inspired By... FERNADO BOTERO (Boterismo) - "figurative artist" and sculptor from Medellin, Columbia - signature style, aka "Boterismo" : depicts people and figures in large, exaggerated volume, can represent political criticism or humour LUCIAN FREUD- (Benefits Supervisor Sleeping) - fat woman lying on a misshapen sofa ( overly emphasized body fat, it is almost melting off the body.--> strange in that people didn't usually find beauty in that nor paint it) - sold in New York for $33.6 million, becoming the world's most expensive painting by a living artist. VENUS OF MILO - During Ancient Greek --> focus on perfection and proportion - portrays the Goddess of Love and Beauty - Very Sexy looking --> the drapery is falling off in a sensual way For this project, I wanted to do a women torso (trying to stay away from doing a face, since if I do it for this project, I would be doing it 3 times in a row). I wanted to do a human form again, just because, ( it's fun) and since during APAH recently, all we'd been doing was marble statues after another, with Greece and now Rome ( which, yes I know Ms. Lopez, is more portrait busts and coins during the Late Empire & soldier emperors) This week was a one day week.
There was really nothing much that was particularly interesting because of this, but I'll blog nevertheless because, well I have to. I glazed my place setting pots to be coloured red, with Ancient Jasper, and did the outside with clear so the normal white colour would show though ( when fired the second time) Prim says Hi |
