This week, I focused on the building of the actual slab. I made the base slab of the face with one slab, then I rolled out another slab to cut the individual pieces and paste them on to the face. While I tried to create the in's and out's of the face by only using the slabs, I had to made actual modification on the slab for the eyes and the mouth ( and for the the indented cupid bow place watchamacallit thing) I also made the stichmarks this week, with a fiddling knife, and covered my backboard with collaged pieces of Korean Plastic Surgery ads. I think what I am going to do is go over the backboard with yellow tinted gesso or paint.. then work on my little fingers ( and other parts).
This week, we studied Keith Haring during our AP Art History class and got to make our own!. I actually took a picture of this one, because I really wasn't trying to focus on the perfection or how it will look at the end and just spontaneously drew figures (the way Keith Haring did)... and it came out pretty cute. ( Although it made me ask myself "what am I doing" a few dozen times while doing it). Since I was moving my hand so fast, I didn't think of each pose before I drew.. rather I just drew a line and let my hand take it from there, and surprisingly all of my little human beings look human, which is a nice surprise.
