This week, I worked on making matcha bowls. My host family from Japan AISA got me some matcha powder, a matcha mixing stick, and a bamboo spoon thingie to scoop the powder for a goodbye present (Along with a thousand other things that they gave me, like chopsticks with my name inscribed in it, origami paper, a gold bookmark, strawberry mocci, a Riracuma bag, Japanese version of honey butter chip, and a bunch of Japanese stationary)
Anyways, since I had everything except the matcha bowls, I decided that I should put my Ceramics class in to use and make them myself.
They came out really nice! I tried to make each bowl a little different from the rest, and I think it makes the bowls more interesting.
I was also pleasantly surprised on how much I my muscle memory remembered in terms of wheel throwing. We really don't have a lot of opportunity to wheel throw after our wheel throwing unit, and it was nice to work on a mini side project where I could actually put some old skills in to use.
My bowls came out a little heavier than I would have liked them to, so I think I could work on making them a little more practical & useable. I've been looking at a lot of Ms. Lopez's bowls (because she started wheel throwing too) and they are a LOT lighter than mine (even when they are twice the size).
In terms of my SRII, everything started cracking again so I put a bunch of patching slip on all the cracks. I don't understand why all of my stuff are always cracking.. they crack in the most random places too.
